Overloading is the quiet culprit. Tall pots on the bottom rack block the spray tower, and then the top rack gets almost nothing. Bowls nested together shield each other. Face soiled surfaces toward the center and leave a finger of space between items. Skip the heavy pre-rinse, since modern detergents need some soil to grab onto, but do scrape solids into the trash. Keep the rinse aid reservoir filled if your machine has one. In hard-water areas it earns its keep, breaking surface tension so water sheets off the glass instead of drying into spots. Run a cleaner cycle monthly to strip grease off the tub walls and door gasket.
